<title>Downtown dining courtyard opens Friday May 17</title>
		<link>http://myflorencetoday.com/Main.asp?SectionID=33&#38;SubSectionID=111&#38;ArticleID=10180</link>
<description>The Renaissance Dining Courtyard, a new public area in downtown Florence, officially opens on Friday, May 17. The public is invited to come see this new outdoor gathering space located behind the restaurants in the 100-block of South Dargan Street. A grand opening celebration, featuring a variety of music by the Latitude Band, will be held from 5-30 to 8 p.m. The courtyard is located behind DaMassimo&amp;rsquo;s, Dolce Vita, The Clay Pot and the Thai House II restaurants on South Dargan Street. It features stone and wrought iron fencing surrounding a landscaped area with paved spaces, dining tables and chairs, plenty of lighting, fountain, pergola and a stone fireplace. The courtyard was paid for by city hospitality funds, says Ray Reich, downtown development manager. Landscape architects working with city officials came up the design for the space. Unique Landscape won the bid to construct the courtyard and city beautification staff provided some of the labor. Located on private property, the courtyard space is being leased by the city for $1 a year. Reich said the courtyard is public space and may be leased for private functions and parties. This is not a money-making venture, he stressed, but some fees may apply. &amp;ldquo; We&amp;rsquo;re hoping that a lot of people will want to use it,&amp;rdquo; he said.</description>
