Florentine to perform at beach, Piccolo Spoleto

Georgie Kelley of Florence has been hired for the second year to perform (sing and dance) in High Steppin’ Country in Myrtle Beach.

Tucked away by the sand dunes on the Lakewood Campgrounds is the Grand Strand’s only outdoor amphitheater, which is home to the longest-running show on the Grand Strand: High Steppin’ Country.

High Steppin’ Country started in 1976 at Magic Harbor and has launched the careers of some pretty big names. Josh Turner, known for his debut album “Long Black Train,” which produced three chart singles, was a performer in High Steppin’ Country in the 1990s.

Each summer the show includes country, gospel, pop, patriotic, a kids section and a novelty section.

Opening night is scheduled for June 13. For tickets contact Lakewood Campground.

Also Georgie has just been selected to perform in the Rising Stars Piccolo Spoleto Program in the area of musical soloist. The selection process was arduous with a large number of talented young people auditioning.

The goal of Rising Stars Piccolo Spoleto series is to provide classical artistically talented youth of South Carolina with a high profile performance venue that recognizes their exceptional talent.

The performances will be presented during the 2017 Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, May 29 through June 9. All programs will be presented at St. Matthews Lutheran Church Auditorium in downtown Charleston on the corner of King and Vanderhorst Streets, across from Marion Square.

Georgie will be performing original music on June 5 at 4 p.m.

She is the daughter of Sid Newman and Burnadene Kelley-Newman of Florence. She has scholarships to attend Anderson University in the Fall to study commercial music and musical theatre with a dance choreography emphasis.
