‘Palate Pleasers’ cookbooks make sure gift pleasers
By BRENDA HARRISON Editor of The News Journal Florence, S.C.
Just in time for Christmas gift giving, Mercy Medicine Free Clinic has published a cookbook, ”Palate Pleasers.”
Just released this month, the cookbook features over 600 “family favorite” recipes submitted by staff, board members, volunteers, patients, friends and community supporters of Mercy Medicine.
Tried and true recipes are divided into the following categories: Appetizers, Beverages, Soups, Salads, Vegetables, Main Dishes, Breads, Rolls; Desserts, Miscellaneous and Wild Game.
The hardbound spiral cookbooks are offered for $20. They are available at Mercy Medicine Free Clinic, Palmetto Peddler, Goosie Ganders, Fishers Jewelers, B. Nance Fine Gifts, Carolina Bank on Irby St. and from Mercy Medicine board members.
Proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks will help with administrative costs of operating the clinic four and a half days a week, as well as free medications, medical and dental supplies for patients.
Fourteen dollars from the sale of each book will go to the clinic, noted executive director Linda Spires.
“The profits from our cookbook sales will help us provide free medical services,” said Spires. “We provide health services in two counties, and dental services in eight counties.”
Not only do the cookbooks make great Christmas gifts, she continued, by giving them you are also giving to others at the same time.
Mercy Medicine Free Clinic provides a free medical home for low income, uninsured adults, the working poor and homeless adults living in Florence and Williamsburg Counties.
