Wilson student places third in USA round at International German Olympiad
Rebecca Liu, an IB sophomore at Wilson High School, won third place in the USA Round of the International German Olympiad 2018. Liu was one of the top 14 students in the US invited to this all expenses-paid trip/competition in Chicago after a four-day online competition against students from across the country.
The International German Olympiad, held every 2 years in Germany, is the largest German language contest in the world. The goal of the competition is to make young people around the world enthusiastic about Germany and the German language. To demonstrate their German knowledge, the contestants need to take various tests, create audio/visual materials, and take part in writing and performing skits. On December 1-2, the Goethe-Institut Chicago hosted the US competition. The competition was held as an “Olympic pentathlon” – reading, listening, speaking, writing and presenting were tested. Liu won third place in Category A.
