Darlington gets new trash truck

DARLINGTON – The City of Darlington received the final piece of a roughly half-million dollar investment in its Street and Sanitation Department on Friday, Nov. 10.

The crisp white 2018 New Way Rear Loader has a 20-cubic yard capacity. The body features all LED lights for maximum efficiency and an 80-gallon fuel tank. This vehicle replaces a faltering one from 2008. This model is similar to the City’s commercial trash truck purchased in October 2014.

This truck is the last delivery of three new major equipment upgrades sorely needed for the department. Two brand new cherry picker trucks, which collect yard debris, were received in June and late September and replaced models from the mid-1980s.

The City will pay for these vehicles over 10 years with payments of $50,500 per year. A portion of the equipment is being paid for through a $50,000 grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture.
